Book 1 of 4: A Forte New Orleans Thriller
When an abortion doctor is assassinated in the early hours of a New Orleans weekend, Al Forte frankly doesn't think twice about it.
Yet, less than 24 hours later, Al Forte, the protagonist of Glen Allison's debut suspense novel, Miscue, is surprised to find himself embroiled in the emotion-charged investigation of the doctor's death and battered from all sides of the abortion issue.
After all, the New Orleans security expert has his own troubles. When his wife was murdered in a teen gang prank gone awry five years earlier, Forte sank into a three-year binge of drugs and alcohol. After he finally got dried out, the ex-Navy SEAL decided to focus on one thing creating his wife's dream The Refuge, a safe-house on the edges of the French Quarter designed to protect children in extreme danger. For Forte, his recovery means keeping his focus simple. The Refuge gives him a reason to live.
So, the doctor's death means little to him. When the 11-year-old daughter of the doctor is endangered, however, Forte gets involved. Forte tracks the killer from the Big Easy to Houston to Chicago to the Caribbean. The Pro-Lifers distrust him, the Pro-Choicers demonize him, and his own troubled past nearly destroys him. Forte pursues the killer as the story spirals upward in a hurricane of deception until he discovers the truth behind the masquerade.
